South Street Memorial Plaques

Elusive Names

 

The following names on the memorial plaques are proving difficult to trace.  A former pupil of the school, Ken Paterson, has researched almost all of the casualties for and would gratefully welcome any further information which can be sent to the school office:

Two possible names

Until the correct name can be identified both have been included in the records.

 

 

Private Robert Henderson, 24688, 7th/8th Battalion, King's Own Scottish Borderers who died aged 34 on the 27th August 1917. Son of Charles and Isabella Henderson Moonzie Works, Balmullo. Husband of Christina Henderson,  Allan Cottage, Balmullo, Leuchars, Fife

First Mate Robert Henderson, S.S. Renfrew (Newcastle), Mercantile Marine
who died aged 48 on the 24th February 1918. Son of Annie Henderson (nee Straithdon) and the late David Henderson, 20 College Street, St. Andrews, Fife. Born in Leuchars, Fife.


 

D. McCall

Three possible names

 

 

Stoker 1st Class DANIEL McCALL.  Royal Navy. Service Number: K/23925. H.M.S. "Hampshire." Died 05 June 1916. Age 28. Commemorated on PORTSMOUTH NAVAL MEMORIAL  Son of Mr. and Mrs. Elizabeth McCall, of 18, Tichbourne Terrace, Brunswick Rd., Liverpool.

Private DONALD McCALL . Service Number: 33833. 10th Battalion, Cameronians (Scottish Rifles). Died 01 August 1918. Age 38. Commemorated on  SOISSONS MEMORIAL, France. 10th Battalion, The Scottish Rifles Service Number 33833  

 Private DOUGLAS McCALL. Service Number: 440029. Royal Canadian Regiment. Died 19 February 1917. Buried AUBIGNY COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION Grave I. G. 23., France. Son of Mrs. Murray, of "Gateside," Balmaghie, Castle Douglas, Kirkcudbrightshire
