Former Pupil Biographies
Glenn Stewart (1951 - current)
I attended Madras College South Street during the 1960’s. I was encouraged
into the creative arts by Mike Gill, Art Teacher and Glen Pride,
Architect.
Career in Architecture and the creative industries began with Walker and
Pride Architects before graduating in Interior Architecture at Duncan of
Jordanstone College of Art and Design Dundee. In 1974 was co-founder and
later National Design Manager of the Scottish Design Group within
DOE/Property Services Agency responsible for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth
ll Government Estate. This involved design and project management of
National Museums, Galleries, Palaces, Courthouses, Prisons, Restaurants,
Exhibitions, Defence, Aviation, Education Training Centres and Workplace
environments. |

Following the privatization of PSA Projects in 1992 I became an
Associate Director of the multi discipline Design company TBV/TPS
Consult.
In 2000 whilst teaching at Dundee University I undertook a PG Cert in
Teaching in Higher Education. This provided further opportunities in
teaching at Cardonald College, Glasgow and Malmo University, Sweden. At
around the same time I became a Government Design Advisor on Courthouse
Design to the Scottish Courts Service and Crown Office. During the
latter part of my career, I became an architectural modelmaker and set
up a property business.

Ministerial Suites and Conference and Exhibition facilities.

Design and presentation of the Armand Hammer ‘Old
Masters Drawings’ Exhibition, National Gallery of Scotland,
Edinburgh International Festival 1978.

Winner of The British Carpenters Award 1985 for
Courthouse in Inverness Castle.

Gallery of Modern Art, Conversion of John Watsons School, Edinburgh

Designed Fast Food Restaurant as part of the Lord
Rayner Committee Projects culminating in designing a
multi-million-pound rollout programme throughout Scotland.

Tulliallan Castle conversion of chapel to Library
and Reading Room as well as new build dormitory accommodation,
library and training facilities extension.

Royal Commission Ancient and Historic Monuments /
Historic Environment Scotland, New Library
Exhibition Design and day-to-day project work at Royal Museum of
Scotland (18months).

Design collaboration with TPS Dangerfield The
Beginnings Gallery New Museum of Scotland.

Collaborative Design of SC500/Malvern Beam Mounted
Seating with Race Furniture Ltd and adjustable multi age Child
Witness Chair with Boss Design for Scottish Courts.

Design Manager responsible for all interiors within
Edinburgh Sherriff Courthouse (£48million) and Glasgow High Court of
Justiciary (£26million) …including High Security Courtroom later.

Commissioned by Scottish Office to develop Design Concept for the
Interim Scottish Parliament within the Church of Scotland General
Assembly. Concept detailed by Simpson and Brown Architects.

Designer of Oak Chairs for Edinburgh Castle Great
Hall and Royal Opening of the Scottish Parliament, (Interim),
General Assembly, The Mound, Edinburgh

Member of British Designers Specialist Interest
Committee for WORKPLACE 1999 London and instrumental in attaining
Enric Miralles Architects to give presentation on Design of the new
Scottish Parliament, Edinburgh.
