Rona MacArthur (1952 - current )

Having been brought up within the St Andrews family business John W. MacArthur Bakers and Restauranteurs I learnt much about the financial aspects of the business. Upon leaving Madras College South Street in 1969 I became Financial Assistant to the Directors.

In 1975 I moved to Edinburgh and took up a management position within Marks and Spencer.
Some years later I joined the internationally renowned Norwegian Shipbuilding Company Ulstein as Personal Assistant to the Managing Director.

I took time out to have children and in 1983 I became more interested in the creative industries and became Personal Assistant and Financial Manager to Chris Clyne, Haute Couture Fashion Designer, London and Edinburgh for many years. Among her clientele were Diana the Princess of Wales and members of the Scottish aristocracy and several internationally recognized stars of stage, screen and television about whom we remained discrete.

My portfolio of companies requiring financial management increased and included several well-known Edinburgh Restaurants and Accountants.

My passion for reading drew me in 1998 to being Financial Manager within the company Birlinn, an independent Scottish Publisher including Polygon, John Donald, Arena Sports, Mercat Press and Compass Academic. It was a joy to be engaged in the overall aspects of these companies including working alongside Graphic Designers and Illustrators. I was also involved in Birlinn sponsorship of student Design Awards within the Faculty of Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, University of Dundee.
