We congratulate Mr. William
Thomas Ketchen, M.A., W.S.. on his appointment as Keeper of the General
Register of Sasines, Edinburgh. Mr. Ketchen is well known, not only in
Leven, but all over the County of Fife and for miles beyond. He is a
native of Elie, and after leaving Madras College he entered his father's
office. A prominent young lawyer, he qualified as a Writer to the Signet,
and started in business in Methil. He soon built up a large local
practice, and in course of time lie was appointed Clerk to Police
Commission, Clerk to the Burgh of Methil, Buckhaven, and Innerleven :
Prosecutor for Elie, Earlsferry. and Williamsburgh; and Clerk to the
District Licensing Court, positions which he still holds. During his long
tenure of office in this capacity, Mr. Ketchen has displayed a keen
interest in the affairs of the district, which he has seen developed from
a comparatively small community to a large mining and industrial centre.
It is, however, in another department of his multifarious duties that his
name has been brought most prominently before the public. Since the death
of his father, whom he succeeded in office, he has acted as the Liberal
Agent for Mr. Asquith in East Fife, In this connection he was warmly
complimented by the Prime Minister in the course of the recent election. |
