R. N. Lamond

Robert Niven Lamond was a pupil in Madras College designed the banner that appeared on the first page of Madras College Magazines between 1936 and 1962.

Look closely at the lower right-hand side of the banner to see his initials RL

Bert, as he was known, went on to Dundee Art College and served in the Royal Air Force in WW2 in 209 Squadron as Sgt, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He died on the 8th September 1942, aged 22. He was one of the crew of Catalina VA713 that crashed on take-off in the Indian Ocean.
